Was #Julius Caesar black?

Who cares?  That's what we are going for this summer!  We're casting African-American male, 40-60 years old, for the role of Caesar.  Let your actor friends know to submit.  Info below:

Curious Frog Theatre Company is casting two Shakespeare plays for the summer:  Two Gentlemen of Verona and Julius Caesar.  AEA Showcase.

 

Plays start rehearsals July 11 and run in repertory.  Performances are in parks throughout the boroughs on weeknights (6pm, 7pm start time) and weekends (4pm, 6pm start times). Rehearsals run weeknights and weekends.  Performances run August 12-September 11.  (2G opens before JC does.)

 

Auditions are Saturday, June 25 and callbacks are Sunday, June 26.  90-second Shakespeare verse monologue preferred, either comedy or drama.  Please have a second piece ready for possible request.

Roles Available:

Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by Renee Rodriguez

Valentine, leading male (actor of color)

Speed, male or female (actor of color)

(all actors should be SAFD certified/recognized in unarmed combat)

 

Julius Caesar, directed by Robert Dyckman

Julius Caesar (older African-American male preferred)

Brutus (male actor of color, 5'10" and up, 30s and older)

Portia: (late 20s-early 40s) Asian, Latina or Middle Eastern female actor.  Beautiful, devoted and strong-willed.  Actor also plays the conspirator Cinna, and others.  Experience with stage combat preferred.

Soldiers: Any age, any gender.  African-American, Latino, Asian, or other non-Caucasian ethnicities only.  Some of these tracks may have one or two speaking lines, most will be present throughout the play and all will participate in the battle sequence. Strong fight skills (armed/unarmed) required.  Non-Equity only.

 

All other roles are cast with company members.  All roles, staff, and production team are volunteers and therefore unpaid, as this is our community project each summer.
